Who We Are
There are two key opportunities within our ABH initiative to donate your time or talents.
-Task Force- This task force collaborates with local leaders, housing advocates, and financial institutions to create equitable access to affordable housing opportunities. Through targeted outreach, education, and innovative partnerships, the initiative aims to empower Black families by providing resources for homeownership, fostering financial stability, and building vibrant communities. By promoting inclusivity and breaking down historical inequities, Habitat for Humanity reaffirms its commitment to creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The task force meets monthly via Zoom with our staff to discuss upcoming events, fundraising and build days!
-Build Days- The task force and volunteers they help recruit will be responsible for helping build the home designated as our ABH home. These opportunities will be posted and will have a certain number of slots to fill each time. The same volunteer team is encouraged to show up on a regular cadence to work on the ABH home until it is complete. With adequate help and the integration of skilled volunteers in construction, we can complete a house for a family in need within 3-4 months. Build days typically take place Tuesday-Saturday 7:30 AM-12 PM.
What We Do
Manatee Habitat is dedicated to closing the racial wealth gap through homeownership. While we have a strong history of serving Black families through our affordable homeownership program, we acknowledge the need to deepen our engagement with the African American community. Our goal is to unite the local Black community in building an ABH home, while also broadening our impact by offering financial literacy courses to Black families—empowering them with the knowledge and tools needed to achieve financial stability, whether or not they are entering our homeownership program.
